Cytotoxin: Plutonium heaven
06/06/11 || Love Lagerkvist
After a month of pretty much only listening to minimalistic electronica (glitch ist krieg) I thought it would be a nice little refresher to review some good old German brutal death metal. As the more clever percentage of you probably already realized, this idea falls on two pretty big points:
1. Brutal death metal of this kind doesn’t have, and never will have, anything related to enjoyable.
2. This is a label-sent. Yeah.
Honestly, the review could just as well end here, as nothing more needs to be said for my point to go through. Yet, for your entertainment, I shall try to work my way through this abomination so that we can give it a proper autopsy. Oh wait, no I don’t, because every song sounds the godfucking same. Every single song contains the same sleep inducing mix of high speed “riffing” à la Brain Drill and equally tiring breakdowns, with an emphasis on the “downs” part. Speaking of which, the vocalist’s ridiculously monotone attempt of imitating a farm animal is some of the worst I’ve heard in a long while. Guitars lack both groove and any kind of feeling, even if they get a point for objectively good execution. The same goes for the pro(tools)duction, which does exactly nothing to make matters better. And the drums, well, let’s just say that it makes you wonder why triggers are actually sold. Maybe the UN should pass an amendment that requires would-be buyers to pass some kind of aptitude test.
That’s all you get. I’m sorry, but I just can’t handle any more of this musical monstrosity. Now if you excuse me, I’m off to take an ice cold shower to the soundscapes of alva noto’s “utp_”.
